This blog reports on significant Keyman product and keyboard development updates over the period from 15 September 2025 — 26 September 2025.

On Screen Keyboard Issue on Android for Android

Keyman for Android 18.0.241 has an issue (#14974) where the bottom of the OSK is partially covered by the device’s navigation bar. A partial fix in the next release (18.0.242) will include the following two fixes:

  • Correct the system’s bottom insets to keyboard (#14808)
  • Fix system bottom insets for Sample and FirstVoices apps (#14828)

As seen on some devices like the screenshot below, the top of the keyboard may partially cover the text area. This is still an ongoing investigation.

Keyman minor releases

Keyman 18.0.241-stable was released in this cycle. There are notable changes:

  • Keyman for Developer
    • Convert forward-slashes to backslashes in Package Editor’s paths (#14722)
  • Keyman for Android
    • Fix the Keyman app’s’ layout to fit with system insets (and not be covered by the navigation bar) (#14597, #14642, #14663)
  • Keyman for Linux
    • Display the default keyboard when there is missing information in the keyboard package (#14714)
    • Handle crashes of invalid languages in Keyboards (#14771)
    • Remove automatic installation of onboard-keyman (#14773)

Keyman 19.0.121-alpha through 19.0.128-alpha were also released in this cycle. Significant updates in these versions include:

  • Keyman for Android
    • Properly show banner after deleting and selecting a keyboard in search (#14768)
    • Fix the Keyman apps’ layout to fit with system insets (and not be covered by the navigation bar) (#14808, #14828)
    • getNavigationBarHeight API documented (#14830)
  • Keyman for Linux
    • Remove automatic installation of onboard-keyman (#14773)
  • Keyman for Windows
    • Add alphabetical ordering to the language selector in setup (#13573)
    • Change Keyman shortcuts to standard Windows shortcuts (#14814)

Keyman 19 roadmap update

The March 2026 Keyman 19 roadmap gets a candid mid-year update. An internal review found 363 open issues still assigned to v19. ARM Windows and Mac installer support are on track; CLDR mobile keyboards are postponed. The team is down to 9 — contributions and donations are welcome.

Keyman 19 alpha (229–236) lands with caps lock and Linux Debian fixes. New keyboards for the Zou and Mising communities join the library, and Lac Viet v3.0 gains Zhuang support. Two new contributors welcomed.
