This edition highlights the latest Keyman product and keyboard development updates from 3 — 14 August 2026, describing recent progress across the project and contributions from the community.

A dose of testimony

Above all, this is an educational project whose primary goal is to preserve and promote the Colchian, or Zan, languages—Mingrelian and Laz—and to pass them on to future generations.

Unfortunately, these languages are not taught in schools and are now facing a real risk of disappearing. More and more young people no longer speak their native language and instead use only the state language. We are not against this. On the contrary, Georgia is our homeland, our history, and our people have made a significant contribution to the country’s independence and development. However, it is deeply heartbreaking to witness our native languages gradually disappearing.

In any case, I have complete confidence in your professionalism, experience, and expertise. Your recommendations and decisions are very important to us, and I am confident that the solution you choose will best serve the goals of this educational and language preservation project.

Once again, I would like to sincerely thank you and the entire Keyman team for your dedication, support, and the invaluable contribution you are making toward preserving endangered languages for future generations.

MARGALEF involvement has made it possible to type Laz and Mingrelian languages through:

• The Laz Latin keyboard and Mingrelian Latin keyboard are for transcription of the Laz and Mingrelian languages.
• The Mingrelian Phonetic keyboard and Laz Phonetic keyboard are created for the Mingrelian and Laz languages using Asomtavruli.

Keyman minor releases

Keyman 19.0.262-alpha through 19.0.267-alpha were released in this cycle. Here are some significant changes:

• Keyman Engine for Web: 
  • Fix keyboardloaded event from initiated twice to fire only once per loaded keyboard (#16297)
  • Add keyman.versionInfo API endpoint (#16351)
  • Ensure loaduserinterface and unloaduserinterface events are working correctly (#16353)
  • Deprecate the following API endpoints (#16354)
    • keyman.helpURL
    • keyman.util.rgba
    • keyman.util.toFloat
    • keyman.util.toNumber
    • keyman.util.toNzString

• Keyman for Windows
  • Streamline updates with metered connections (#16099)
  • Ensure smooth interactions of modifier keys for on-screen and physical keyboards (#16361)

Keyboard Updates

New keyboards

• The Lainong keyboard is created for the Lainong language (#4096)
• The hokkienese telex keyboard is for the Script of National Language for South Hokkienese Lán-Lảng-Ọe Koc-Gí-Dị – thanks to Cathaylaboratory (#4095)

Improved keyboards

• The Hanifi Rohingya keyboard v1.1 adds characters to touch layout:
  • 𐴗𐴢 to shift layer
  • 𐴗 as a long press key (#4094)
• The CauNon keyboard v1.2 changes input sequences to output characters in the correct order – much thanks to Monitvilla (#4090)
• The Shanghai Telex keyboard v1.2 changes ș ż to replace š ž – credit goes to Cathaylaboratory (#4089)
• The eastern_pwo_karen keyboard v1.1 improves the touch keyboard layout – appreciation to easternpwokarenunicodeteam-web (#4047, #4101)

Predictive text Updates

• The Medžuslovjansky slovnik lexical model is an Interslavic dictionary for the Interslavic language – contributed by radoslove (#351)

New contributors

We welcome eight new contributors to the team page. Thank you for helping Keyman to serve everyone better! During this release cycle, we recognize:

• Anui Sainyiu took part in the creation of the Lainong keyboard.

• Our Internship program in Feb – Apr 2026 with memaynor, Mengchou97, seyhachhorn-dev, phyphy-svg, kongchanlina, seanvisal69-ux, and minanlynna-code, the new design for settings menu, tools, and dark mode for Android has been approved and available for download from Keyman version 19.0.264-alpha onwards!
