Keyman Update for 12 April 2024

This blog reports on significant Keyman product and keyboard development updates over the two week period from 01 April 2024 — 12 April 2024.

Keyman minor releases

Keyman 17.0.298 beta through 17.0.308 beta were released in this cycle.

Significant updates in these versions include:

• Android: prevented crash to keyboards when selection texts are reversed (#11127, #11188)
• Android: fixed OSK size when rotate (#11134)
• Mac: modified selected text without being corrupt (#11086)
• Prevented selected text from being deleted when switching layer (#11032)
• Fixed Rapid typing crashes (#10778, #10836, #10838, #10840, #10843, #10960)
• Lexical Model: improved suggestion stability and accessibility (#11164, #11085)
• Keyman Help: updated Iphone and Ipad banner document for Keyman 17.0 (#11200)

Keyboard updates

New keyboards:

• A massive contribution from mauriiu with the latest keyboards:
  • The Paleohispanic keyboard is designed for typing the Iberian language using the Northern Paleohispanic script (#2629).
  • Lycian keyboard allows typing Lycian and Milyan languages using the Lycian script (#2652).
  • With the new Lydian keyboard, using the Lydian script, it is now possible to type out the Lydian language (#2653).
  • Typing Elbasan script with Elbasan keyboard is now possible (#2655).
  • The Phaistos Disc keyboard can type Phaistos Disc symbols (#2658).
  • Cypriot Syllabary keyboard is designed for typing the Cypriot Syllabary (#2668).
  • Welcoming the Indonesia Dvorak keyboard for typing Indonesian (#2669).
  • Vithkuqi keyboard is designed using Vithkuqi script for typing Albanian (#2671).
  • The Caucasian Albanian keyboard is built for Albanian using the Caucasian Albanian script (#2673).
  • Portuguese (Programmers) keyboard is made for Portuguese programmers using deadkeys and combinations of characters (#2680).
  • A newly added Linear B syllabary keyboard is available for download (#2683).
• Thanks to RebeccaRGB for the new keyboards:
  • The Kreative SuperPET keyboard is designed to type symbols based on the PETSCII character set and keyboard from the Commodore PET and its descendants (#2651).
  • Download Sitelen Pona (KreativeKorp, UCSUR) keyboard to type sitelen pona, a logographic writing system for the popular constructed language toki pona (#2670) (#2690).
• The FirstVoices Project published a few keyboards; credit goes to HopsAndHops:
  • Sgüüx̱s keyboard is designed for the Sgüüx̱s language of the BC Coast region of Canada (#2648).
  • The Nlha7kapmxtsin keyboard is made for typing the Nlha7kapmxtsin language (#2686).
• Taigi telex keyboard for Tâi-gí (Taiwanese) pe̍h-ōe-jī is available for download (#2656). Contributed by Tranhaiming.

Keyboards enhancement:

• The FirstVoices Project improved several keyboards, thanks to HopsAndHops and Helen:
  • Cree – Roman Orthography keyboard (v10.0.1) received support on Windows, macOS, Linux, and Web (#2645).
  • ᑐᑊᘁᗕᑋᗸ (Southern Carrier) keyboard (v10.0.1) and Haisla keyboard (v2.0.1) completed the information of welcome pages (#2649) (#2650).
  • Henqeminem keyboard (v10.0.1) has new desktop and touch layouts (#2657) (#2687).
  • Hul̓q̓umin̓um̓ keyboard (v1.1) received more combination letters and keys (#2681).
  • Halq’eméylem keyboard (v9.2) with improvements to mobile and desktop layouts and handling of more rules (#2682).
• The EuroLatin (SIL) keyboard (v3.0.2) received an upgrade to the touch currency layout (#2688). Credits go to Darcy.

Predictive text dictionary updates

• Two newly added predictive text dictionaries are available for Esperanto and Esperanto Ŝava (#248) (#249). Thanks to Tomás Briones.

Keyboard App Builder updates

Keyboard App Builder 11.2 was released on March 28, 2024, with numerous bug fixes:

• iOS app:
  • Resolved the issue of KAB producing invalid apps.
  • Fixed: Splash screen was not displayed at startup.
• App Builder for macOS:
  • Implemented a bundled JDK to ensure no errors when creating a new Keystore.
  • A fix on Sonoma 14.2 revolves around the crashed menu bar.
